Darks Common East into Glenbrook Gorge

Photographing from Darks Common

This photograph was taken early in the morning facing east towards Sydney and you can see the start of Sydney just past the mountains. It is one of my favourite photographs, its a great scene and the light for this photograph was perfect; I hope for this kind of light when I go out to take photos but I don't usually get it. The light through the clouds was just the right mixture; the light provided both a soft box and direct light to the gorge at the same time which gave a rich saturated almost fluorescent glow to the scene with shadows that were not overly dark.

009_darks commonPhotographing from Darks Common at sunrise, depending on the season, gives different lighting into the Gorge and is worth getting up early for.

Both of the photos below were taken looking south west. In the foreground is the continuation of the rail line which enters a tunnel  that emerges about 2 km from Glenbrook Station. At the top of the gorge in the centre is Tunnel View Lookout which is a favourite of mine to take photos from.

003_darks commonDarks Common is one of many great places to visit and take photographs in the Lower Blue Mountains. For taking photos it is a good place to visit in the morning and the afternoon.

Darks Common is close to Glenbrook Vi007_darks commonllage which is a wonderful place to stop and wander around. The Tourist Information Centre on the Great Western Highway is easily accessed and is within a short walk from anywhere in Glenbrook. The Information Centre will has information on places to visit in the Lower Blue Mountains and the Upper Blue Mountains.
