Lennox Bridge, Glenbrook, in the lower Blue Mountains of NSW

Lennox Bridge, also known as the horseshoe bridge was opened in 1833 and it is the oldest surviving stone arch bridge in mainland Australia. The bridge is on Mitchells Pass and can be accessed off the Great Western Highway at Blaxland. Just take a right turn at McDonalds, if you're coming up the mountains, onto Layton Avenue go under the railway bridge through the roundabout onto Mitchells Pass and keep following it for 2 km. The bridge crosses over Brookside Creek and there is parking on either side. The road was opened to light traffic for travel through to to Emu Plains but has been closed since 2010- I loved that drive.

Lennox bridge is a great place to visit and for the adventurous exploring down the creek is not too hard.

Photographing around Lennox Bridge

This photograph is a panorama of Lennox Bridge taken from the southern side in the late afternoon on a cloudy day.  It is a beautiful area around the bridge with walks down Mitchells Pass or along bush tracks up to Marges or Elizabeth lookout which have views over Western Sydney and on the horizon the Sydney CBD.

This Photograph of Lennox Bridge was taken about 50 metres down Brookside Creek back at the bridge from the northern side in the late afternoon. I love the dappled light through the trees in this photograph and the following along Brookside Creek.

After walking along Brookside Creek heading north away from Lennox Bridge for about 50 metres there is a track on the right which goes past a sandstone overhang before the trail returns to the creek.

After returning to the creek from the trail and walking along the creek for about 20 metres there is a bent to the right which brings this enchanting scene comes into view.

This is a beautiful scene facing almost at the sun across Brookside Creek into a valley that runs towards Blaxland Trailing along next to Mitchells Pass.

This scene is only 200 metres from Lennox Bridge and is well worth the effort. I am now facing back towards the south in the late afternoon.

A little further down Brookside Creek about 250 metres from Lennox Bridge there is an old rusted out ute that must have been pushed over the edge of Mitchells Pass. I am not a fan of rubbish however this ute seems to fit in.
